BELVEDERE

Our family run Belvedere Poll Dorsets in Tallangatta Valley, North East Victoria.

Alongside the stud, we run first cross and composite ewes and beef cattle on 1300acres, 950mm rainfall, surrounded by hills, and the occasional snow fall.

​

We sell around 100 Poll Dorset rams annually from the end of September.

​Breeding Objectives

We believe in getting structure and conformation right by visual assessment and for the traits we can’t see we use Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBV’s).  

 

For over 20 years ASBV’s have helped benchmark and improve our key carcass attributes (growth muscle fat). These traits are important to our clients wanting to produce fast growing, early maturing lambs.

 

With the release of eating quality ASBV’s for tenderness and intramuscular fat, the challenge is to ensure that lamb remains the product consumers love, while still making progress in growth and muscling.
